Review - etsy shop purchase from dspdavey - black cocktail ring

I am passionate about supporting local small and hobby businesses, it is imporntant that artisans continue and are not swallowed up by mass produced plastic companies. One of the artisans I admire for quality and beautiful work, is Deborah Davey. I have followed this multi-talented artist, scientist and etsy shop owner on Twitter for some time, and admired the beautiful items she hand crafts and sells on etsy.

I saw a post she made on twitter recently haring a cocktail ring she had made and was selling in her etsy store - the ring was just my style, silver toned, Baroque style, and black. I was immediately enamoured with it and rushed (as much as one can rush in virtual reality) to her etsy shop in the hope it was still available for sale. Happily for me it had not yet been snapped up and I scored a beautful hand crafted cocktail ring.

This ring is beautiful. It was packaged in gorgeous black tissue with a decorative sticker seal and sent in recycled packaging which I LOVE! I believe in re-use and recycle and when a seller does this they get an extra star from me - can I give Deb a 6/5 stars?

There was a handy instruction tag about how to care for the piece which is useful to ensure the ring is kept in excellent condition and can be enjoyed for a very long time.

The black centre is set on a silver tone light weight metal adjustable ring, and therefore will fit most finger sizes from tiny to large. I have been alternatively wearing it on my thumb and little fingers, which shows just how adjustable the ring is!

This ring is just a delight -  Thanks Deb your work is stunning

Iron Maiden and Eddie! In Brisbane May 2016 - great concert

Last night my husband and I went out, on a work night (ugh)... to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, to see a band. Not just ANY band .... this was Maiden.

I have been a fan since the early 80s, when as a child in England,  I first heard them. My cousin who is much older than me had the record 'Iron Maiden' amongst his Status Quo albums. I think maybe it was Paul DiAnno who fronted the band then. My cousin was kind of appalled when his ten year old female cousin was rocking to Maiden,  but then I think I appalled him frequently ..  he also never forgave me for accidentally scratching one of his Quo albums. (Quo ... pfft)

Anyway back to Maiden.

Long term fan, but had never seen them perform live. Then in 2011 at Soundwave in Brisbane I finally got to see them live. Amazing! Bruce Dickinson with his amazing vocal dexterity, Adrian, Steve, Dave, and Janick with their guitar virtuosity, and Nicko McBrain with his lively percussion. The only thing missing was Eddie. Sadly blog readers... there was No Eddie.

Fast forward to May 2016 ... Brisbane Entertainment Centre, there we were, seeing Maiden for the second time!

After The Raven Age finished their set (and they were polished awesomeness as well by the way) a short intermission and then... lights dimmed.... there was susurration from the crowd.. then quiet... the stage is bathed in a glowing green light, then the two side monitors display Ed Force One.. and... Eddie!! (Yay Eddie!!) .. then the lights brighten on the stage... and the crowd starts to roar .... and the opening of If Eternity Should Fall quells the audience's roar....

What an amazing show... stage sets, lighting, everything ... and Mr Dickinson's voice is still that amazingly brilliant multi-octave delight it has always been. (Glad you are well again too Sir after your illness of last year). Watching Janick and Steve bounce around the stage and Dave's fingers fly over the frets, and Adrian and his brilliant solos.. and Nicko with his Energiser Bunny super energetic, amazing drumming... .. could this concert get any better???

Then.. yes! EDDIE!!! yayayaayayayayayay.

Eddie struts onto the stage.. and Bruce rips his heart out Aztec style... theatrics are always a great part of Maiden's  performances.. not that they need them, their music is entertaining enough.

Then... later.. Eddie as a massive huge, did i mention massive, creature towering over the stage appears!!!

Yay.. not only did we get to see Maiden perform ... we saw Eddie!!! Twice!!!!

That reminds me, Iron Maiden is bringing out an Eddie mobile platform game mid year... make sure you get in on that! The link to get to the info.. ooh and buy some game merch is http://ironmaidenlegacy.com

I am a fan, a long-term fan of Maiden, a long long ..I am old.. ok.. OLD... been a fan ..for a long time.. a long long... anyway you get the idea......
so I am biased... but to me that was the best concert I had ever been to.

... Until the next Maiden concert anyway! ;)

The play list last night was: (I think I got all of them here... I was immersed in the concert so I may have missed one .. if I have please let me know!)

I enjoy reading blogs its like having a huge amount of free magazines and autobiographies to read. I learn, laugh, cry, along with the blogger.

Some of my favourite blogs at the moment are as follows:

Minerva Levinston: a digital artist. using a variety of media combined with digital edits to create some amazing images. She has free downloadables for people to print and use in their art journals and scrapbooks. Like me she is participating in the Documented Life Project, and that is where i discovered her blog. Like me she loves her coffee!! A very creative person with an interesting blog, please follow her blog you won't regret it.

This is CorpGoth: I really enjoy this blog as this lady works and is a Goth, like me she is in the big bad world of professional work places, and can find a happy medium between her self expression and her job. She posts some great pix of her fashion and she provides a glimpse into her life. Fun and interesting read.

Confessions of an Australian Goth: This lady blogs about her fashion style, her pets, her life. She is another great creative person who shows the world that us Goths are creative, good people!

More Nail Polish: this blogger lives in Canberra, she has the most amazing finger nails I have ever seen! She blogs about nail polish (obviously) and she does the most artistic manicures that have to be seen to be believed! She also reviews nail polish and publishes DIY so you can also try out the manicure styles she uses. I find her blog posts informative and entertaining, and the manicures are amazing!

Deep Midnight Perfume OIls: this lovely talented lady creates the most divine fragrances and sells them on etsy. She has a blog where she interviews other artists, helps to promote the work of others, and also talks about her perfume inspiration.

Do you have favourite blogs I should read? Please let me know by putting the links in the comments!

Tales of a slack blogger

2013 leaped away from me like a horse with thorns under its saddle. My last blog post was in April 2013 , and I am feeling quite depressed about that.

However 2014 is a new year, and I have goals, and I WILL keep them!!

Blogging at least once a week is one of my goals, so please help me get some views...please...otherwise I feel like i am talking to myself..well I am aren't I?

This year I have started a new facebook page where i will put 'pocket' reviews of products I have bought from cottage industry stores, as well as promote and advertise fellow crafty people and artisans.  I will then write larger reviews in my blog..here... of the products I have bought, used, and pocket reviewed on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/supportcottageindustry

My goals this year are:

  1. blog at least once a week
  2. schedule/organise my time efficiently so I can fit in designing, making, blogging, writing, housework; with my day job!
  3. keep new designs ready to sell in my Facebook store page as well as my etsy store
  4. stay positive, keep positive energy and help others to do the same

What are your goals for 2014?

Please feel free to comment !!!
